Frederick A. Stokes Company, 1930. Hardcover. Very Good in Fair jacket. Signed first printing.

Helen Fuller Orton (1872–1955) was a prolific and popular writer of children’s and young adult stories in the early 1900s. Though many of her later works were mysteries with historical narrative woven in, this charming 1930 book follows the adventures of three young children and their grandmother—who always seems to be baking cookies.

They all manage to get themselves into various pickles—all quite wholesome, to be sure. Although, we do sometimes wonder why the children were left unsupervised so often...

Black and white illustrations by M. L. Frantz throughout.

Our copy is signed by the author twice—once on the half title page and once with an inscription to a friend on the front free endpaper. A first printing with the scarce jacket, which is soiled and missing a fair amount of paper, particularly from the spine. It is now protected in a mylar sleeve. The interior is clean and unmarked.
